“She doesn’t just walk the earth—she dances with it. In the rain. Without hesitation.”
Shauna is rooted. Not in the stillness kind of way, but in the fluid way—like tree roots that grow and reach at the same time. She’s a writer, a poet, a dancer, and a traveler who has scaled cell towers for the thrill, danced barefoot until blistered, and found connection across language barriers simply by sharing movement.
For her Power Portrait, we met at The Highlands, a park near Blandford Nature Center, which was new to both of us. It was quiet. Moody. The kind of landscape that holds you with reverence. As we began to shoot, the sky began to rumble, and rain started to fall. But Shauna didn’t flinch. She kept moving—gracefully, dancing with trees and wind. Her ease permitted me to explore the absence of sunlight, to honor what richness can look like in shadow.
She wore Rust Brown, a deep reddish earth tone that ignited on her skin. Truffle brown added dimension, like fertile soil. Chamois, the lightest note, softened the weight with warmth. The result was depth without density—a complete, delicious brown palette that felt like bark, cocoa, the forest floor after rain.
Shauna reminded me: Brown isn’t boring. It’s grounding, rich, sensual. It’s what everything beautiful grows from.

Symbolism
Rust Brown and its earthy companions are colors of depth, connection, and renewal. Brown holds stories in its soil. It’s the color of wood, leather, warmth, and resilience. A rooted hue for those who know where they stand—and still choose to dance.

Psychology
Brown speaks to stability and inner trust. It comforts without clinging. Rust Brown, with its red undertones, adds vitality to that steadiness. It often calls to those who feel the sacredness in slowness and the power in remaining unshaken.

Energy
This palette anchors the root chakra, the energetic seat of safety, belonging, and embodiment. It grounds scattered thoughts, calms restlessness, and invites full presence in the body and spirit. It’s the color of deep faith—quiet, enduring, unforced.

Somatics
Wearing Rust Brown may help you feel more supported in your spine, your hips, and your feet. It’s a hue that brings you home to your body—calming, strengthening, clarifying. You might feel more willing to pause. Or more willing to play in the rain.

If this color calls to you, you may be seeking depth over distraction. You might be remembering that the most beautiful growth doesn’t come from being seen—it comes from being rooted. ✨ Be grounded. Be generous. Be rich with meaning. ✨
