Mika in Periwinkle

Mika in Blue-Violet is a portrait of transformation—someone standing between worlds, blooming where softness meets structure. Mika holds the story of being both the flower and the stone, of letting yourself be seen before you're fully formed.

Mika is a blossom in the wildest sense—like a violet flower rising through concrete or a rich grape growing on an unexpected vine. She is a beauty blooming in a place that wasn’t built for softness, yet she stands tall.

For her Power Portrait, Mika asked to be photographed in liminal places—where things mixed and merged: cement and water, sky and glass, steel and wildflower. In downtown Grand Rapids, she stood steady beside the river, fabric flowing around her, while the city stood fixed behind her. She moved with quiet intention, like a river slowly carving its path through stone.

We met through improv and crossed paths again during an ecstatic dance. Both of us are neurodivergent, twins with complex ties. We found in each other not just playfulness but understanding—something quiet and real, a rhythm beneath the noise.

Mika chose Blue-Violet because it didn’t ask her to be just one thing. It’s not a loud color, but it’s not passive either. It holds multitudes—resilience, intuition, clarity, softness, strength. Blue-Violet is a hue that doesn’t announce itself loudly but stays with you, like a song you didn’t realize you were humming.

She stood with the skyline. She danced in the river. She ate grapes in the sun. She showed up not trying to pass or perform but to be. Fully. Honestly. In her own rhythm.

“We can be the flower, the stone, the sky, and the sidewalk.”
Mika reminds us: grace doesn’t require choosing. It invites holding both.

Symbolically, Blue-Violet is the color of transition and self-trust. It belongs to those emerging from old stories and beginning to live as they truly are—messy, beautiful, whole.

Psychologically, it supports clarity, identity formation, and emotional release. It’s for those gently unraveling and reassembling, redefining themselves beyond external expectations.

Energetically, it bridges the throat, third eye, and crown chakras, inviting truth-telling, vision, and a sense of being connected to something bigger.

Somatically, Blue-Violet relaxes the mind and opens the breath. It eases pressure behind the eyes, unknots the jaw, and settles the nervous system into presence.

If Blue-Violet is your color, you may be in a phase of quiet but powerful change. You are not lost. You are deepening.

You are allowed to change your shape.
